- Confirm if the price includes shipping. (A $75 part with $30 shipping is different from $75 all-in.)
- The hidden cost most people miss: revision charges. If the engineer sends a file update after the order is placed, some vendors charge $50-200 per revision. Ask upfront: "How many file revisions are included?"
I always ask for a total landed cost now. It sounds formal, but it just means: "What will my final invoice be, all in?" Vendors who can answer that quickly tend to have their process together. Vendors who hedge... maybe not for an urgent order.
Step 4: Use a Cost Calculator for a Quick Baseline
Now, I'm not a manufacturing engineer, so I can't speak to machine time all that precisely. But I know my ballpark numbers.
